Report on iReport

CNN's user-generated site, iReport, does not seem entirely reliable. It is deceiving because the fact that it is run by CNN makes it seem like a reliable source for news and events, yet it is still user-generated. It is similar to wikipedia.com in the sense that the posts on both sites are submitted by the sites users. Teachers in school tell their students NOT to cite or use wikipedia cause its not fact checked and can be changed at any time. In other words, it is an unreliable source. The same thing goes for iReport. It says right on top of iReport's homepage "That means the stories submitted by users are not edited, fact-checked or screened before they post. "

Almost all of the content on the homepage of iReport is related to Michael Jackson. How surprising! Another turn off about this site is its appearance. It just is too messy and unappealing with the fonts and colors. First of all the fonts are really boring and not very eye-catching. They should use more fun fonts that draw the site's users in instead of boring them. I feel that there is just too much going on on the homepage. Between all of the photos and all of the wordiness on the page, my eyes are not sure where to look. However in its defense, iReport's headings are easy to spot out because they are all in big, bolded, blue letters.... and they all have to do with MJ's death.

I think that iReport could use a little spiffing up. I am not crazy about its appearance because it is a little too bland yet the content makes it too confusing to look at.
